Born in Amsterdam on 25-08-1977.

He has practised various martial arts from a young age, starting with Aikido at 18. At 22, after watching the first UFC with Royce Gracie, Raoul was so impressed by Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that he immediately looked for a school. In March 2000 he and his friend Mano went to Harold Harder's school in Drunen, and after the first trial class he was hooked. From then on they travelled to Drunen (later Den Bosch) twice a week to train with Harold Harder.

In 2003 he and Harold went to Rickson Gracie's school in Los Angeles to train at the style's main dojo. Since then he returns to the source several times a year for further training. Raoul has been teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 2007 and is committed to spreading the style of Rickson and Kron Gracie. He is a 3rd degree Rickson and Kron Gracie Jiu-Jitsu black belt and a NOC*NSF nationally recognised Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu trainer/coach.

Raoul attends seminars and regularly competes in national and international Jiu-Jitsu tournaments, with the following results:

• 1x European champion and 2x bronze at the European championships
• 2x Dutch national champion
